Woman dies falling into elevator shaft in Dhaka

A woman has died after falling into the shaft intended for the installation of a lift in a residential building in Konapara area of Dhaka’s Demra.

The incident occurred around 7:30PM on Sunday. She was then rescued and taken to a local hospital.

The victim was identified as Halima Kaysar Bokul, 55, who lived on the fourth floor of the building. She fell into the shaft on her way down from her apartment.

From there, Halima was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment where a on-duty doctor declared her dead around 8:30PM, according to inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH police outpost.

Halima’s son Md Bappi said they lived on the fourth floor of the building and his mother was seriously injured when she fell while coming down the stairs.
