A dog died after suffering an electric shock in rainwater adjacent to mall area at Dhaka University (DU), raising concerns about safety on campus and prompting immediate administrative response.

The incident came to light on Wednesday night after a video was posted by political science department student Esrafil Alam.

In his post, he described seeing the animal die on the spot, with smoke rising from its body in waterlogged conditions near Mall Chattar in front of Surjo Sen Hall.

He wrote he believes the university administration should take responsibility for such accidents, adding that he himself might have been shocked at the incident had the dog not been present at the time.

He also noted that several people nearby were attempting to enter the water submerged area; he had warned them after noticing the danger.
