Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday confirmed that India has requested the repatriation of the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case, who is currently in Indian custody.

He said that efforts are ongoing to bring the suspect back to Bangladesh under a prisoner exchange agreement, and that a formal request has already been sent through diplomatic channels by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The minister made the remarks while paying tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh's Liberation War on the occasion of Independence and National Day.

He first visited the Rajarbagh Police Memorial in Dhaka, where he placed a wreath to honor the police members who were killed during the Liberation War.

Salahuddin Ahmed highlighted the historical importance of the Rajarbagh Police Lines, noting that it was the first base for the declaration of Bangladesh's independence and the site where the first genocide began on the night of March 25, 1971.

He recalled that then-Major Ziaur Rahman declared a mutiny in Chittagong upon learning of the killings and proclaimed Bangladesh's independence early on March 26.

The official declaration was later broadcast from Kalurghat radio station, seeking international recognition and support.

"This is the real history of our independence," the Home Minister said, honoring the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for the nation's freedom.

After visiting Rajarbagh, Salahuddin Ahmed also paid respects at the National Memorial in Savar and the grave of Ziaur Rahman.
