Ekushey Padak-winning singer Mahbuba dies

Mahbuba Rahman, the singer who featured in Bangladesh's first full-length film 'Mukh O Mukhosh', has passed away at the age of 91.

She breathed her last at about 6:15PM on Thursday while undergoing treatment at LabAid Hospital in the capital, according to singer Rumana Islam.

She adde, "Mahbuba Rahman had been suffering from old age complications for a long time. Her funeral prayer will be held at the Moghbazar Wireless Jame Mosque on Friday."

The Ekushey Padak-winning singer will be buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard after janaza.

Mahbuba Rahman was among the most recognisable voices on radio and in films from the 1950s to the 1970s. Known for her effortless command over both folk and modern songs, she helped shape an era of Bangla music.

Her musical journey began in 1947 at the Dhaka station of All India Radio.

She was also known for songs such as “Nirala Raat Prothom Prohore”, “Tomake Valobese Vadasali Ki Pelam”, and many others. She also lent her voice to many films, including “Jago Hua Savera”, “Ashia”, “E Desh Tomar Amar”, “Je Nodi Marupathe”, “Kokho Aseni”, “Surjasnan”, “Sonar Kajal”, “Raja Tashro”, “Nawab Sirajuddaula” and “Saat Bhai Champa”.
