Nearly 18kg gold seized from flight toilet

Authorities at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have seized nearly 18 kilograms of gold hidden inside a toilet panel on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that arrived from Dubai.

The discovery was made by Aviation Security (AVSEC) and intelligence agency officials late on Saturday night. 

According to airport intelligence sources, the haul, valued at approximately 38 crore taka, consisted of 153 gold bars weighing a total of 17.901 kilograms.

Acting on a tip-off, security and intelligence officers placed the Biman flight under surveillance upon its arrival. With assistance from AVSEC, officials searched the aircraft and discovered the gold bars wrapped in white cloth inside a toilet panel within the cargo compartment.

The seized gold has since been handed over to airport customs for further legal proceedings.

A case is being filed with the airport police station in connection with the smuggling attempt. However, no arrests have been made so far.
