A local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader has been expelled in Lalmonirhat district on Monday from his post within hours of posting in support of a referendum on social media.

The expelled was identified as Rakibul Hasan, organising secretary of Aditamari Government College unit of JCD, was removed from his post and primary membership, according to a press release signed by district senior vice-president Amrul Hasan Molla.

The statement also instructed party activists to refrain from maintaining any connection with him.

According to party sources, Rakibul posted a status on his personal facebook account around 1:00 PM urging authorities to “implement the verdict of the referendum without delay.” Within about an hour, disciplinary action was taken against him with approval from district president Syed Sadikul Islam Pavel and general secretary Md Jahangir Khan.

Reacting to the decision, Rakibul expressed frustration, saying he had been actively involved in student politics since his school years and had participated in various movements, including the July 2024 uprising.

“I only demanded a referendum in the interest of the people. I never imagined I would be expelled for this,” he said.

Party sources said the action was taken as part of organisational discipline, though no further details were provided.
