Bangladesh Shop Business Owners' Association has decided that all shops, commercial establishments and shopping malls across the country will close by 8PM as part of efforts to conserve electricity and fuel.

The decision was announced on Thursday in a press release issued by the organisation.

It said the move was taken to support the government's ongoing energy-saving measures amid the continuing conflict in the Middle East, which has contributed to a global energy crisis.

Under the directive, all general retail outlets and malls will close by 8PM. Essential services, however, are exempt.

Hotels, pharmacies, and kitchen markets (wet markets) providing daily necessities will remain open past the curfew to serve the public.
