Masud Uddin Chowdhury placed on fresh remand

A Dhaka court on Friday placed former army officer and ex-MP Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury on a three-day remand in a human trafficking case filed with Paltan Police Station, marking his third remand in the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam issued the order after police produced the accused in court following the completion of his previous six-day remand and requested an additional four days for further interrogation.

Masud was arrested from Baridhara on the night of March 23. He was initially placed on a five-day remand, followed by another six-day remand granted on March 29.

According to police, further interrogation is necessary to gather details about recruiting agencies, the transfer of workers to Malaysia between 2022 and 2024, returnee migrants, medical expenses and work permit documentation. 

Investigators also aim to identify and arrest absconding suspects and recover embezzled funds.
