Political violence claims 18 lives in March: HRSS

A total of 18 people were killed and more than 912 leaders, activists and ordinary citizens were injured in political and post-election violence across the country in March this year, according to a report by the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS).

The findings were disclosed in a press release issued on Saturday (April 4), based on the March 2026 Human Rights Monitoring Report. The report draws on news published in 16 national newspapers, alongside data collected by HRSS.

The casualties occurred in 113 incidents of political violence during March. While the number of incidents declined compared to February, fatalities increased. In February, 10 people were killed in 346 incidents.

The report detailed various forms of party-based clashes and internal conflicts. It said 501 people were injured and 9 killed in 45 incidents of BNP internal violence. In BNP-Jamaat clashes, 109 were injured and 5 killed in 16 incidents.

In BNP-AL clashes, 156 people were injured and two killed in 22 incidents. Eleven people were injured in two BNP-NCP clashes, while 39 were injured in 21 clashes involving BNP and other parties. Additionally, 96 people were injured and two killed in seven incidents between different political groups.
