A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for former DGFI director Afzal Naser in connection with the killing of BNP activist Makbul Hossain.

Police produced Naser before the court on Sunday, seeking a five-day remand in the case filed with Paltan Model Police Station.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah formally showed him arrested in the case and approved a three-day remand.

Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi argued in favour of the remand, while defense lawyers sought bail and requested dismissal of the remand petition.

Naser was arrested last Sunday night from a residence in Mirpur DOHS.

Earlier, he had been placed on a six-day remand in a separate murder case linked to the death of Delwar Hossain during anti-discrimination student movement in 2024.

According to the case statement, BNP had announced a program scheduled for December 10, 2022. Ahead of the event, on December 7, law enforcement agencies allegedly carried out operations at the party’s Nayapaltan office, during which activists were reportedly assaulted.

Makbul Hossain was shot during the incident and later died from his injuries.

The case was filed on September 30, 2024, naming 256 accused individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
