SAFF winning Bangladesh U-20 youth football team captain Mithu Chowdhury expressed desire to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and want to hand over the SAFF trophy to him on behalf of the Bangladesh team.

"Since this is SAFF U-20 Championship…. we have achieved the first success in football after the formation of the new government. After winning the trophy, my teammates expressed their desire to me to meet Prime Minister and want to hand over the SAFF trophy to him. I appeal to the State Minister for Sports to take necessary step in this regards," said Mithu during the team's reception ceremony held at the National Sports Council auditorium on Monday.

Earlier, in the morning people from all walks of life in sports participated in the rally marking the National and International Sports Day.

Then a discussion meeting held at the National Sports Council auditorium and later State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque accorded reception to the SAFF U-20 champion team at the same venue.

Bangladesh Football Federation president Tabith Awal, sports organizers and officials of the ministry were also present there.
During the reception ceremony, the players of the SAFF champion team were each given cheque of Taka one lac along with sports allowance card. The coaching staffs of the team also received Cheque of Taka one lac.

Mithu thanked the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal for providing a lot of facility for the team. BFF development committee's chairman Nasser Shahrear Zahedee already rewarded us and Dhaka North City Corporation announced prize for our team… but my teammates expect more and we expect something good from our BFF president.

"This journey was one of great hardship and sacrifice. You all know we went to the Maldives on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, we celebrate Eid there without our family, Before leaving the country, I told we would return home with the SAFF trophy and celebrate the victory like the Eid festival and finally we have succeeded." said the Bangladesh captain in his reaction.

State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque assured the Bangladesh captain by saying that: "Captain Mithu wants to hand over the trophy to Prime Minister on behalf of the team … Inshallah I have already talked to the BFF president in this regards and we'll meet soon to Prime Minister and hand over the SAFF trophy."

Mithu Chowdhury captained Bangladesh to a historic SAFF U-20 Championship 2026 title, defeating India 4-3 on penalties in the final in the Maldives.    "BSS
