Bangladesh has finalised a 41-member contingent for the forthcoming 6th Asian Beach Games, set to be held in Sanya, China from 22 to 30 April 2026, as the nation prepares to test its mettle on the continental sands.
The announcement came during a press conference at the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), on Wednesday, where officials outlined Bangladesh's participation across six disciplines, Beach Athletics, Beach Wrestling, Beach Handball, Beach Kabaddi, Swimming and Beach Volleyball. A total of 31 athletes, comprising 22 men and nine women, will represent the red and green, supported by 10 coaches and officials.
The multi-sport spectacle is expected to draw around 1,800 athletes from 45 nations, with the opening ceremony scheduled for 22 April and the closing ceremony on 30 April at Sanya's iconic beachside venues.
Bangladesh's delegation will be spearheaded by senior officials of the BOA. In terms of composition, Beach Kabaddi forms the backbone of the squad with the largest representation, while Beach Handball and Volleyball also field competitive units. Notably, both men's and women's teams will feature in selected disciplines, reflecting a balanced approach in team selection.
However Carrying the national flag at the opening ceremony will be Beach Handball player Rabbi Ahsan and Beach athlete Sumaiya Dewan, symbolising the nation's aspirations. For the closing ceremony, Beach Volleyball player Hriday Biswas has been entrusted with the task.
An advance team has already departed for Sanya, while the remaining members are scheduled as per their events.
Financially, a budget of approximately Tk 2.15 crore has been allocated for training, with an additional Tk 3.39 crore earmarked for participation expenses. Officials expressed optimism in the press meet that necessary govt support will ensure smooth execution.
Historically, Bangladesh has shown promise in Beach Kabaddi, having secured bronze medals in previous editions. The officials are more hopeful of winning medals in Kabaddi while also hoping for respectable performances across other disciplines.
As the curtain rises on yet another continental gathering, Bangladesh steps onto the sand with quiet determination, aiming not merely to participate, but to leave a telling footprint in Sanya.
