BRT project under spotlight at PMO talks

A high-level meeting on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project was held on Sunday at the Cabinet Division under the Prime Minister’s Office, where the progress, implementation process and expected benefits of the Airport-Gazipur route were reviewed in detail.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, discussed various aspects of the BRT project, including design, station management, passenger service, operational framework and overall effectiveness.

Experts present at the meeting shared their observations and recommendations on improving project planning and service quality to ensure efficient public transport connectivity between Dhaka Airport and Gazipur’s Joydebpur.

Senior officials, including Road Transport and Bridges and Railway Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam, State Minister for Road Transport and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib, senior bureaucrats, and engineers from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), attended the meeting.

Among the experts were Professor Md. Shamsul Haque, Mosleh Uddin Hasan, Md. Hadiuzzaman, and Rakib Ahsan, along with senior officials from the Roads and Highways Department.

The meeting underscored the importance of improving urban transport infrastructure to ease congestion and enhance commuter services in the capital and surrounding areas.
