Bangladeshi photographer Jubair Ahmed Arnob has made history by becoming the first from the country to win the prestigious Student Photographer of the Year title at Sony World Photography Awards.

Now in its 19th edition, the global competition received more than 430,000 entries from over 200 countries and territories, highlighting its scale and international significance.

Arnob, representing Bangladesh and Counter Foto; A Center for Visual Arts, earned the 2026 title for his series The Place Where I Used To Play. Created under this year’s student theme “Together,” the project explores the idea of togetherness through a powerful visual narrative of Dhaka’s changing landscape, where rapid urbanisation is transforming suburban life.

A selection of winning and shortlisted works from the competition will be showcased at Somerset House in London from April 17 to May 4, 2026.
