A Dhaka court on Monday placed former DGFI director and dismissed military officer Md Afzal Naser on a fresh three-day remand in a murder case linked to an anti-discrimination movement in Mirpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamsed Alam passed the order after police produced the accused before the court with a plea for a seven-day remand. Following a hearing, the court granted three days.
Afzal Naser was arrested on March 30 from a residence in Mirpur DOHS.
According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, a group of 500-700 activists of the then ruling Awami League allegedly attacked a peaceful protest at Mirpur-10 and opened indiscriminate fire under the direction of Sheikh Mamun Khaled.
Delwar Hossain sustained critical injuries in the attack and later died on July 21 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area.
The case was filed with Mirpur Police Station in July 2025.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
