A Dhaka court has granted a fresh three-day remand for former DGFI director and dismissed officer Md. Afzal Naser in a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement in Mirpur.

On Monday, police produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand. After hearing both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamsed Alam approved a three-day remand.

Afzal Naser was arrested on March 30 from a residence in Mirpur DOHS.

According to the case, on July 19, 2024, a group of 500-700 Awami League activists allegedly attacked a peaceful protest at Mirpur-10 and opened indiscriminate fire under the direction of Sheikh Mamun Khaled.

Delwar Hossain was critically injured in the attack and died on July 21 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Shyamoli.

The case was filed with Mirpur Police Station in July 2025.
