Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has accorded a reception to the Bangladesh for becoming champions in the SAFF U-20 Championship.
The reception ceremony was held this (Wednesday) morning at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan with each member of the champion team was awarded a cheque of Taka 50,000, a crest, and a commemorative gift from the city corporation.
Coaching staff of the team were also honoured with crests.
DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton attended the programme as the chief guest while Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal was present there as special guest.
DNCC chief executive officer Md Asaduzzaman delivered the welcome speech.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, DNCC administrator said country's football journey has begun a new and under the direction of the Prime Minister, initiatives are being taken to recover and open up unused land across the country for sports by removing illegal occupation.
Addressing the players, he said: "We believe future national team footballers will emerge from among you. For us, money is not the priority, our main goal is to honour and inspire you."
BFF President Tabith Awal thanked the DNCC administrator for being a strong patron of sports.
He said that city corporations have a significant role in the development of sports in the country. "Sports teach us unity in society, and sports are essential for maintaining a healthy community," he added.
Among others present at the event were BFF vice president Fahad Mohammad Ahmed Karim, members of the Bangladesh U-20 football team, DNCC chief health officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, chief engineer Brigadier General Syed Rakibul Hasan, along with officials from both BFF and DNCC.
