BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that, a sudden global crisis has affected many countries, including Bangladesh.

Speaking as a chief guest at a program at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium in the Kalibari area of Thakurgaon, he said the conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel has caused economic pressure worldwide.

Fakhrul said oil prices have increased in Bangladesh, creating problems for people. He mentioned seeing long lines of motorcycles at petrol pumps.

However, he said the problem is not due to a shortage of oil or supply, but partly due to artificial issues created by some groups.

The minister said some people have started unethical business during this situation, which is harmful to the country. He said he has instructed the administration to take action so that no one can make illegal profits by selling oil during this difficult time.

He also urged people to remain calm and avoid wrongdoing. He warned against believing false information and propaganda.

Fakhrul said a group is trying to create instability in the country.
He added that people should work together to build a peaceful, stable, and developed Bangladesh in honor of those who sacrificed their lives.

Highlighting development in Thakurgaon, he said initial work on a medical college has begun. A vice chancellor will be appointed to the university on Sunday, after which its activities will start. Work on an engineering college is ongoing, and steps have been taken to reopen an airport.

Fakhrul also said work has started to upgrade the Dinajpur Panchagarh highway to four lanes and to build a bypass road around Thakurgaon town. Plans are underway to upgrade Ruhiya Thana to an upazila, while the process of making Bhulli Thana an upazila is near completion. Efforts are also being made to improve the quality of educational institutions.

The program was organized to support families affected by cyclone and hailstorm and to distribute corrugated tin, cheques, and allotment letters for the development of social and religious institutions. It was arranged by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Ministry of Local Government, and the District Council.

The event was conducted by Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam. Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Haque and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Golam Ferdous also spoke at the program.
