Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) is set to observer its 31st founding anniversary today (Tuesday) in a befitting manner.
The main event will be arranged at the BCG Headquarters in the capital's Agargaon area through formal observance and official proceedings.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed will attend the function as the chief guest. Senior military and civilian officials, along with other special guests, are also expected to be present.
On this occasion, a total of 14 Coast Guard officers, sailors, and civilian members will be awarded medals in recognition of their bravery and service. The awards include the Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal, Coast Guard (Service) Medal, President Coast Guard Medal, and President Coast Guard (Service) Medal.
The establishment of the BCG was the result of a long-term planning and strategic foresight. In 1994, then prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia had laid the legal foundation for the BCG to ensure security across the country's vast coastal areas.
