Faruk Ahmed new SRB chief

Faruk Ahmed, Additional Inspector General of Bangladesh Highway Police, has been appointed Director General of the Special Response Battalion (SRB).

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.

In a separate order, the incumbent SRB Director General, Md Ahsan Habib Palash, was transferred to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.

Faruk, a 17th BCS (Police) cadre officer, joined Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1998.

The SRB formally began operations on September 16 as a specialised unit of Bangladesh Police following the gazette publication of the Special Response Battalion Act, 2026.
