Moderate to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has pushed water levels above danger marks at eight points across seven rivers in three northeastern districts of the country.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) issued a situation update on Monday morning based on data recorded at 9:00 am.

According to the report, 74 mm of rainfall was recorded in Jariajanjail of Netrokona and Habiganj Sadar, while Chandpur-Bagan received 61 mm. In Sunamganj, the Naljur River at Jagannathpur rose by 11 cm and is currently flowing 40 cm above the danger level.

Netrokona remains severely affected. The Dhanu-Baulai River at Jariajanjail increased by 9 cm, now flowing 8 cm above the danger mark.

Although the Someshwari River at Kalmakanda and the Bhugai-Kangs River at Jariajanjail saw slight decreases, they remain significantly above the danger threshold by 50 cm and 67 cm, respectively.

Furthermore, the Mogra River in Netrokona Sadar rose by 5 cm and is flowing 79 cm above the danger line, while at Atpara, it remains 27 cm above.

In Habiganj, the Kalni River at Ajmiriganj swelled by 15 cm, crossing the danger mark by 10 cm. The Sutang River at the Sutang Railway Bridge rose by 23 cm, now flowing 83 cm above its danger level.

The FFWC noted that while the water levels in Sunamganj's haor rivers are rising very slowly--at a rate of zero to one centimeter per hour--the overall situation remains critical as regional rivers continue to struggle with the influx of rain and upstream water.
