The planned talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland have been suspended, with the Swiss Foreign Ministry confirming that the meeting scheduled for Friday at the Bürgenstock resort will not take place.
According to Reuters, a White House spokesperson earlier said that US Vice President JD Vance had cancelled his planned visit to Switzerland, where he was expected to meet Iranian representatives.
The meeting was expected to discuss the implementation of an agreement aimed at ending the conflict between Tehran and Washington.
However, officials said the plan for the talks had not been finalised, leading to the postponement of both the visit and the meeting.
The concerned parties are expected to provide further updates on the next steps later.
Earlier, Iran and the United States confirmed the signing of a widely discussed memorandum of understanding. The agreement was signed electronically through digital means, without the direct presence of representatives from either side.
The memorandum reportedly includes provisions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease certain financial sanctions imposed on Iran.
