Jamil Ahmed Limon, the Bangladeshi PhD student who was brutally murdered in USA's Florida, was laid to rest at his ancestral village in Jamalpur on Monday night.

Limon was buried at 7:30 PM in his family graveyard at Laldoba village under Madarganj upazila, next to his grandfather’s grave.

His funeral (Janaza) was held at the Laldoba High School grounds after the Maghrib prayers, attended by local Member of Parliament Mostafizur Rahman Babul, relatives, neighbors, and hundreds of villagers.

The freezing ambulance carrying Limon's body arrived at the village at 3:12 PM on Monday. As the coffin reached his home, a pall of gloom descended on the entire area, with thousands gathering to pay their final respects.

His body had arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:40 AM on a Dubai-based Emirates Airlines flight.

Jamil Limon and another Bangladeshi PhD student, Nahida Sultana Bristi, 27, both at the University of South Florida (USF), went missing on April 16. After friends alerted university authorities, a search operation was launched.

On April 24, police recovered Limon’s body, showing multiple signs of trauma, hidden inside a trash bag near a bridge in Florida. Bristi’s remains were also later discovered in a nearby body of water.

Police have arrested Limon’s roommate, 24-year-old Hisham Saleh Abugarbieh, in connection with the murders. The suspect faces two counts of first-degree murder along with several other charges.

Limon, the elder of two brothers, had traveled to the US two years ago on a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, and Policy at USF after completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at Khulna University.

His father, Johurul Haque, who works at a textile factory in Gazipur, is now grieving the loss of his promising son alongside his wife and younger child.
