A Dhaka court on Monday placed former lawmaker and ex-DGFI chief Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury on a fresh three-day remand in a case over the killing of Biplob Sheikh, 19.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Piyas granted the order after police sought five days.
Prosecutors argued for remand, while the defence opposed it, citing Masud's age and health issues, including heart disease and his recent illness following an earlier remand.
According to the case, Biplob was shot during a student protest near Azmal Hospital in Mirpur-10 on July 19, 2024 and later died in hospital. Police say preliminary evidence suggests Masud's involvement and that further interrogation is needed to identify others linked to the issue.
Masud was arrested from Baridhara on March 23 and has been remanded multiple times in different cases.
