Local Government Engineering and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam on Monday urged the newly elected reserved seats women MPs for playing their effective role in the national Parliament.
He expressed hope that the party's new women MPs will act effectively in the parliament.
The minister made this remark after paying floral tribute at the graves of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
In response, BNP's Standing Committee Member and Reserved Seat MP Selima Rahman said the party remains committed to the commitment of strengthening democracy, curbing corruption and advancing the rights of women, workers, farmers and other marginalised communities. She also pledged necessary steps to promote grassroots women's empowerment and ensure their socio-economic participation.
BNP will continue working to consolidate democracy and ensure equal rights for people from all sections of society, she added.
She further said, the party plans to work directly with rural women to help them become self-reliant, noting that increasing women's confidence will strengthen empowering women from the grassroots levels.
BNP will try its best to make democratic progress and ensure economic development in the country, following the guidance of the prime minister, she maintained.
