Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday issued a directive to relevant authorities to launch urgent repair and renovation works on the road network in Pirojpur district to ensure safe and smooth vehicular movement.

The instruction came during a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat.

According to a statement from the PMO, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to establishing an uninterrupted and modern road communication system throughout the country.

He specifically noted that road sections which have suffered from long-term neglect must be prioritized for immediate rehabilitation.

The meeting was convened to review the current status, hurdles, and upcoming milestones of development projects managed by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Pirojpur.

Tarique Rahman emphasized that swift action is necessary to alleviate the daily hardships faced by the residents of the district.

During the briefing, officials provided updates on LGED project implementation but also highlighted significant concerns regarding past governance.

Discussions during the session touched upon allegations of systemic corruption and irregularities that reportedly took place under the previous Awami League administration. Officials noted that certain projects were compromised by the involvement of former local Members of Parliament and relevant bureaucrats.

In response, the Prime Minister stressed that transparency and strict accountability must be the hallmarks of all current and future development initiatives.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Public Works and Pirojpur-2 MP Ahmed Sohel Manzur, Pirojpur-1 MP Masood Sayeedi, and Pirojpur-3 MP Ruhul Amin Dulal.

Local Government Division Secretary Shahidul Hasan and other senior government representatives were also present to coordinate the immediate response.
