KHULNA, May 5: Authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have undertaken a series of landmark decisions to transform the university into a safe, modern and world-class smart campus.

The decisions were announced at a views-exchange meeting held in the KUET conference room on Monday afternoon with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammad Masud in the chair.

To ensure maximum security, the authorities announced setting up a permanent police camp on the campus, which government has already approved. Strict control will also be imposed on the entry of outsiders with time limitation for their stay. Special instruction including, time-based movement restrictions in certain areas during late hours, particularly for female students, were also discussed.

As part of digitalisation, a "unique ID card" system will be introduced for teachers and students, allowing access to all services including library, medical and cafeteria facilities through a single card. To ensure transparency in examinations, a "unique coding system" for answer scripts will be opened.

A modern curriculum, including midterm exams and a revised marking system, will be effective from the 2025 batch. Students of the 2021-2024 batches may choose into the new system based on majority consensus.

Addressing accommodation issues, the VC said separate 10-storey halls for female and male students will be constructed within one year and one and a half years respectively.

Under a long-term master plan, Rashid Hall and Fazlul Haque Hall will be replaced by three modern 10-storey academic buildings for EEE, CE and ME departments. The authorities also announced increased budget for research and study tours. Initiative has been taken to establish a standard restaurant, along with a pharmacy and salon near the auditorium.

The VC urged students to maintain discipline and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
