Mild earthquake in Assam jolts northern Bangladesh

A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 struck Mankachar area in India's Assam, on Saturday, sending tremors across several northern districts of Bangladesh.

According to Volcano Discovery, a website specializing in volcanic and seismic activity, the earthquake occurred at 2:40 PM local time. 

The epicenter was located approximately 34 kilometers from Assam's Dhubri. While the exact depth of the quake has not yet been confirmed, experts suspect it was a shallow tremor.

The proximity of the epicenter resulted in noticeable tremors throughout the surrounding region. Residents in various parts of northern Bangladesh reported feeling the vibrations shortly after the event occurred. 

While shallow earthquakes are often felt more intensely near the epicenter, they generally have a limited range compared to deeper seismic events. No immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage have been received from either side of the border. 

Authorities continue to monitor the situation for any aftershocks.
