HC grants bail to Shakil, Rupa in July Uprising cases

The High Court on Monday granted bail to journalist couple Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa in multiple cases linked to the July uprising.

But, they cannot be released as both are accused other cases.

An HC bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher issued the order.

Farzana Rupa has been granted bail in six cases, while Shakil Ahmed has been granted bail in five cases.

Meanwhile, the court also issued separate rules asking the state to explain why the couple should not be granted permanent bail in those cases.

According to case documents, a Dhaka court on August 31, 2024, sent the couple, arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, to jail in a case filed with Adabor Police Station over the murder of garment worker Rubel.
