A Dhaka court on Monday granted a fresh three-day remand for former DGFI Director Lt Col (retd) Afzal Nasher in a case over alleged repression during the anti-discrimination student movement, financing sabotage and involvement in terrorist activities.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order after Kotwali Police SI Abdul Haque sought a five-day remand. Police said Nasher had earlier been remanded for six days in two phases and provided important information during interrogation, which is now being verified.
According to investigators, preliminary evidence suggests Nasher was among the key financiers behind the crackdown on protesting students and allegedly directed organised acts of violence.
