'Maj Jahangir Bahini' leader held with arms, ammo

 
The Coast Guard has arrested the leader of the Sundarbans-based bandit group 'Maj Jahangir Bahini' along with weapons and ammunition during a raid in the Sundarbans.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the matter at around 11:00 am on Tuesday.

He said the Coast Guard is conducting special drives named "Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans" and "Operation Mangrove Shield" to stop the activities of bandit and forest-based criminal groups in the Sundarbans region.

As part of "Operation Mangrove Shield," the Coast Guard carried out a raid in the Kalir Khan area near the Adachai Forest Office on the Shibsa River in the Sundarbans late Monday night.

During the operation, the leader of the "Maj Jahangir Bahini," Md. Jahidul Islam alias Maj Jahangir, was arrested.
The Coast Guard also recovered two single-barrel guns and five rounds of live cartridges from deep inside the forest during the search operation.
