Two siblings drown in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, May 14: Two siblings Abdur Rahman 6, and Abu Bakkar 4, sons of Md Miraz Sheikh of Boratkathi Village under Doihari Union in Nesarabad Upazila of the district, drowned in a canal at Chhotoamtal Village of Sadar Union under Nazirpur Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon. 

The incident happened while the victims were visiting their maternal grandfather's house in Chhotoamtal Village along with their parents. 

Locals assumed that the younger brother fell in the canal and seeing this, the elder brother tried to rescue him but he also fell in the canal and drowned.

Union Parishad Chairman Md Rasel Sikder said the newly excavated canal is much deep, so the locals couldn't rescue them immediately.

Dr Snigdha Mitra of Nazirpur Health Complex said both were rushed to the hospital but they died earlier. Officer-in-Charge of Nazirpur Police Station Tariqul Islam said police visited the spot.
