Another 16 children died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, although no new confirmed measles deaths were recorded during the period. The total death toll has now risen to 528, while 1,434 new infections were reported.

The information was disclosed in a report released on Sunday afternoon by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), covering the period from 8:00am Friday to 8:00am Saturday.

According to the health authorities, 86 people have died from confirmed measles infections since March 15, while 442 others died with suspected measles symptoms during the same period.

Since March 15, the number of confirmed measles cases has reached 8,622, while suspected infections have climbed to 63,813 nationwide.

During this period, 50,558 patients with suspected measles were admitted to hospitals, and 46,214 have been discharged after recovery.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross donated emergency medical equipment to Bangladesh's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to support efforts in tackling the ongoing measles situation.

The equipment was formally handed over to Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain at a ceremony held at the Secretariat on Sunday. Dr. Jalisa Khanam, Health Programme Manager of the ICRC Dhaka delegation, presented the supplies on behalf of the organisation. The donated items include 14 oxygen concentrators, 570 airway management devices, 12 bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitators, and manual suction devices.

Officials expressed hope that the support would strengthen emergency preparedness and response capacity and help healthcare facilities manage respiratory complications and other critical cases more effectively.
