10 more children died of measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, raising the total death toll to 575 since mid-March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the latest deaths, two were confirmed measles cases while eight children died with suspected measles symptoms, the DGHS said in its latest report released on Friday.
During the same period, 732 new patients were reported infected with measles and related symptoms nationwide.
According to health authorities, a total of 575 children have so far died from measles and measles-like complications across the country. Of them, 90 deaths were confirmed as measles through laboratory tests, while 485 children died with symptoms associated with the disease.
The DGHS data also showed that 8,943 people were confirmed infected with measles through testing, while 68,579 patients with measles-like symptoms sought treatment at hospitals during the period.
Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of infections and deaths. A total of 250 children died from measles and related symptoms in the division, while 38,623 were infected with the disease and its symptoms.
The statistics cover the period from 8:00am on March 15 to 8:00am on May 29, according to the health authorities.
