The Savar Tannery Industrial Estate is buzzing with activity as raw hide collection and processing operations hit full swing following Eid-ul-Adha.

Authorities reported on Saturday that more than 527,000 hides have entered the estate over the last three days.

According to data provided by Mehrajul Maian, Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) at the tannery estate, a total of 527,676 raw hides arrived via 1,712 trucks between Thursday noon and Saturday morning.

The shipment includes 511,540 cow and buffalo hides and 16,136 goat and sheep skins.

Laborers were seen working around the clock to unload trucks and preserve the hides with salt to prevent spoilage. "The preservation and processing of incoming hides are being handled rapidly," said Engineer Maian.

He added that BSCIC, in coordination with the Ministries of Industries and Commerce, district administration, and law enforcement, is working to manage the seasonal pressure and ensure smooth transportation.

The first truck carrying sacrificial animal hides entered the estate at 12:30 PM on Eid day, with the influx increasing steadily since. Tannery owners noted that this remains the busiest season of the year, requiring extra caution in chemical preservation.

On Friday afternoon, Commerce and Industries Minister Khandaker Muktadir visited the site to inspect production activities and discuss environmental management with factory owners.
