Son made OSD over alleged neglect of elderly mother

The government has made Joint Secretary Dr AKM Anisur Rahman an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) following the recovery of the decomposing body of his mother Nurjahan Begum from a residence in Pallabi under Dhaka's Mirpur.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued an order in this regard on Wednesday.
Dr Rahman is the son of Nur Jahan Begum, a 75-year-old woman whose body was recently recovered from a residence in Mirpur. Allegations have been raised that her children failed to provide her with proper care and support.

Earlier on Wednesday, while speaking to journalists, State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari said that action would be taken in accordance with the Parents Maintenance Act. 

"The law on maintenance of parents is in place, and necessary steps will be taken according to the law. The concerned official's statement will be taken and due procedures will be followed. The process has already begun, and the matter is being investigated," he said.
