Jamaat chief, NCP leaders meet Turkish FM

Opposition leader in parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman held a high-level bilateral meeting with visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Dhaka on Friday evening, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

The meeting took place at InterContinental Dhaka at around 8:30 pm, where Dr. Rahman led a six-member delegation. He welcomed the Turkish foreign minister and his accompanying team. The discussions were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.

Both sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of deepening the long-standing diplomatic, historical, and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

The discussions covered potential areas of cooperation, including education, culture, scientific research, trade, economic development, and technological partnerships. Both sides also highlighted the importance of enhanced collaboration in addressing regional challenges, promoting peace and stability, and responding to global crises.

Dr. Rahman expressed appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an and the Turkish government for their continued support on the Rohingya issue. He called for stronger international efforts to ensure a sustainable solution to the prolonged displacement of Rohingya refugees.

As a gesture of goodwill, he conveyed a congratulatory message to President Erdo?an through Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and thanked the Turkish delegation for visiting Bangladesh.

The meeting was attended by senior Jamaat leaders, including Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Mia Golam Parwar, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Nurul Islam Bulbul, Md. Selim Uddin, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman.

Both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation across multiple sectors in the coming years.

In a separate meeting, a National Citizen Party (NCP) delegation led by Convener Nahid Islam also met the Turkish foreign minister on Friday night.

The NCP delegation discussed defence cooperation, trade expansion, youth exchange programmes, and broader bilateral engagement. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening Bangladesh-Türkiye relations.
