Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast gusty winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers in several parts of the country, including Dhaka, prompting a cautionary signal for inland river ports.

In a weather warning issued for inland river ports valid until 1:00pm on Sunday, the Met Office said temporary squally winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep across Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet regions.

The winds are likely to blow from the west or northwest and may be accompanied by rain or thunderstorms, the warning added.

In view of the adverse weather conditions, inland river ports in the affected areas have been advised to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 from 5:00am to 1:00pm.
