MYMENSINGH, June 7: Two students died in separate drowning incidents in Gouripur Upazila of Mymensingh over the past two days, police sources said.
On Saturday afternoon, a 12-year-old schoolboy, Ibrahim, drowned in a pond at Ghorpara Village.
The deceased was the son of Abdul Mannan of Ghorpara Village and a Class IV student of Bokainagar Government Primary School.
Family members said Ibrahim went to a nearby pond for a bath after playing football with local boys. While others returned safely, he went missing in the water.
Later, relatives found his body floating in the pond and recovered it. He was rushed to Gouripur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Duty doctor at the hospital Dr Mofakkarul Islam said the child was brought dead.
In another incident, a polytechnic student, Md Mokramin Hasan Rafi, 25, drowned in the Brahmaputra river while bathing with friends.
His body was recovered on Thursday morning from Boyra Ghat area near Boyra Bazar after nearly a day-long search operation, fire service officials said.
Rafi, son of Abul Hossain of Boyra area, was a third-year student of Mymensingh Polytechnic Institute.
