Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has left Dhaka for Moscow on a three-day official visit to Russia on Sunday. Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying him during the visit.
On the second day of the visit, Dr Rahman is scheduled to hold bilateral talks in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Discussions are expected to cover areas of mutual interest and avenues for enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
The foreign minister is also likely to meet several senior Russian government officials for courtesy calls and exchanges of views during his stay.
The trip marks Dr Rahman's first overseas visit since his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier announced the visit, saying that Khalilur Rahman would visit Russia from 7 to 9 June at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the two foreign ministers would hold talks in Moscow on June 8 and discuss current bilateral and international issues.
