Israeli military launched strikes in western and central Iran despite US President Donald Trump’s repeated requests to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to “hit back”.

Multiple explosions were heard in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan as Israel launched, what the country claims, ‘a surprise retaliatory attack’ against Iran, reports BBC.

US President Donald Trump earlier urged his Israeli counterpart not to retaliate for the Iranian strikes, according to several outlets. Fox News earlier reported that Trump also told Iran “that’s enough”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says multiple waves of missiles fired at northern Israel are “the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes”.

Earlier, Iran launched 10 ballistic missiles on northern Israel. The Iranian authorities described it as retaliation for Israel’s constant attacks on Southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire in place. This was the first time Iran directly attacked Israel since agreeing to a truce with the United States. The latest clashes have now taken a major toll on the peace efforts.
