Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a 15 percent waiver on surcharge for the recovery of outstanding holding tax, aiming to boost revenue collection and ease pressure on taxpayers.

The announcement was made at a meeting on market management and revenue enhancement held at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium on Tuesday, chaired by DSCC Administrator Md Abdur Salam.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of DSCC-owned market committees, where issues such as electricity savings, waste management, dengue control and trade licence services were discussed.

As part of the initiative, DSCC said taxpayers who clear their arrears by June 30 will be fully exempted from the 15 percent surcharge imposed on overdue holding tax.

Officials said the move has been taken to encourage timely payment of dues and help achieve the revenue targets set for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Market representatives raised several concerns during the meeting, including complications related to trade licences, illegal hawker encroachments in front of markets, poor waste management and unauthorized occupation of market spaces.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdur Salam directed concerned officials to take immediate steps to resolve the issues raised by the traders.

Senior DSCC officials and representatives from various markets and business associations were also present at the meeting.
