After securing a landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election and forming the government, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is set to present a national budget for the first time in 19 years.
On Thursday (June 11), at 3:00 pm,
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will place the proposed budget for the 2026�"27 fiscal year before the Parliament at 3PM on Thursday.
The last budget presented by a BNP-led government was for the 2006�"07 fiscal year. It was delivered by then Finance Minister M. Saifur Rahman during the tenure of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
In a Bangladesh reshaped by the July uprising, an elected government is once again set to present a budget in Parliament. The proposed budget for FY2026�"27 is expected to be passed on June 30, with the new fiscal year beginning on July 1.
The first budget of independent Bangladesh was announced in 1972 by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, amounting to Tk 719 crore.
Continuing that tradition, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the country's 55th national budget.
