Govt plans monorail feeder network to support metro rail expansion

The government plans to develop a monorail-based feeder network linked with six metro rail lines to create an integrated modern public transport system in the capital, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Thursday.

Presenting the FY2026-27 budget in Parliament, he said the initiative aims to improve urban transport efficiency and promote a safe, environment-friendly and technology-driven mobility system.

He also said the government plans to upgrade key highways into four-lane economic corridors and develop a multimodal transport hub to improve connectivity across different transport modes.

According to the budget proposal, 94 development projects are being implemented to strengthen road safety and improve the country’s transport infrastructure.
