The government has announced plans to recruit 100,000 health workers nationwide, with 80% of the posts reserved for women, aiming to improve healthcare delivery and promote women’s empowerment.

The government has initiated a major recruitment drive to appoint 1 lakh health workers across the country to ensure quality and people-centred healthcare services, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said while presenting the FY2026-27 budget in Parliament on Thursday.

He said 80% of the positions will be reserved for women as part of efforts to enhance gender inclusion and improve service delivery in the health sector.

The finance minister also announced steps to recruit 5,000 MBBS doctors to fill long-vacant posts in public healthcare facilities.

In addition, the government is expanding opportunities for higher education and professional development in nursing and midwifery, including plans to introduce bachelor’s and master’s level programmes to build internationally competitive skilled manpower in the sector.

The measures are part of the proposed FY2026-27 budget aimed at strengthening the country’s healthcare system and expanding human resources in the sector.
