Who will not need a TIN to open bank account

The proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 makes a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) mandatory for opening a bank account.

The government is taking this initiative primarily to broaden the tax net. However, several exemptions will remain in place.

Students will not be required to submit a TIN certificate when opening bank accounts. In addition, holders of no-frills accounts- such as the Tk 10 bank account scheme- as well as individuals opening accounts to receive government allowances and pension beneficiaries, will be exempt from the TIN requirement.
