Education tops FY26-27 budget allocation,top 15 ministries listed

The government has proposed a total expenditure of Tk 9.38 trillion for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with the highest allocation going to the Secondary and Higher Education Division, according to the budget proposal placed in Parliament on Thursday by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The education division is set to receive Tk 57,302 crore, followed by the Health Division with Tk 49,387 crore and the Primary and Mass Education Ministry with Tk 46,738 crore.

Other major allocations include Tk 42,497 crore for the Defence Ministry, Tk 40,246 crore for Local Government Division, Tk 36,918 crore for the Road Transport and Highways Division, Tk 31,099 crore for the Home Ministry, and Tk 30,443 crore for the Social Welfare Ministry.

The Agriculture Ministry is allocated Tk 28,881 crore, while the Technical and Madrasa Education Division will receive Tk 18,457 crore. The Science and Technology Division is set to get Tk 18,115 crore, followed by the Power Division with Tk 14,996 crore.

In addition, the Health Education and Family Welfare Division will receive Tk 13,466 crore, Water Resources Ministry Tk 10,533 crore, and the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Tk 10,350 crore, ranking it 15th among the listed sectors.
