Agri, food security prioritised with Tk 43,335 cr 

The government has placed agriculture, food security, fisheries and livestock among its key priorities in the proposed budget for FY2026-27, allocating Tk43,335 crore to transform these sectors into technology-driven, climate-resilient and self-reliant engines of growth.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, while presenting the budget in Parliament, proposed the allocation for the sectors, with the amount equivalent to 0.63 per  cent of GDP, up from Tk37,126 crore in the revised budget for FY2025-26.

As part of the government's support measures, the Farmer Card Programme will be expanded to provide services and financial assistance directly to farmers. A total of 4.25 million farmer cards will be distributed across 100 upazilas during the next fiscal year. 

Under the programme, landless, marginal and small farmers will receive annual cash assistance of Tk2,500 along with other benefits. An initial allocation of Tk1,062.5 crore has been proposed for the initiative.

The government also highlighted continued support for agricultural loans, mechanisation, modern marketing systems and improved storage facilities.
