Facilitate mental health services

Dear Sir,

A healthy nation requires both physical and mental well-being. Yet, mental health has long been neglected in Bangladesh.

Students face academic pressure, young people struggle with unemployment and uncertainty and working professionals deal with financial and family-related stress. Online harassment and social media comparisons further increase anxiety, depression and loneliness.

Despite these challenges, awareness of mental health remains low. Many people consider mental illness a sign of weakness and avoid seeking help. Moreover, there is a shortage of mental health professionals and facilities, particularly in rural areas.

Therefore, mental health services must be made more accessible. More psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors should be appointed and educational institutions should provide counseling support. At the same time, greater awareness is needed so that mental illnesses are recognized as common and treatable health conditions.
