Dear sir,
There is no denying that the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry has been the backbone of Bangladesh's economic progress. It has generated vital foreign exchange, created employment for millions, and established the country as a significant player in the global manufacturing landscape. For this contribution, the sector deserves both recognition and appreciation.
However, overdependence on a single industry is now emerging as a concern. At present, nearly four-fifths of our total export earnings come from the garment sector alone. What once appeared as strength is gradually revealing itself as a structural vulnerability.
In this context, export diversification can no longer remain a matter of policy discussion alone"it must become a national priority. Sectors such as leather and leather goods, pharmaceuticals, information technology services, agro-processing, light engineering, and shipbuilding hold significant potential.
